What takedown looks like on Surrey homes
Surrey is mostly houses with a lot of roof. Newer homes in Morgan Creek, Fleetwood and South Surrey often have tall entries and steep front peaks. That is the part most people do not want to climb in January.
Newton, Guildford and Fleetwood have many split-levels and basement-entry homes, and a lot of them have suites. The outdoor plug may not be on your panel, so tell us who controls it when you book.
Cloverdale and the older parts of the city have big cedars and hedges with lights wound through them. Those take longer to unwind than a straight roofline, and we plan for that. Tell us what is up there and send a photo. It helps us bring the right ladders and give you a fair idea of time.
January weather and roof timing in Surrey
Rain and wind arrive by November, so lights hung in dry weather often face a wet roof by January. Rain totals in Surrey are lower than in Vancouver and on the North Shore, and South Surrey gets more sun near the bay. Inland, Cloverdale and Clayton see slightly colder nights, and frost on a roof can mean morning work has to wait.
We move roof work when it is slick or windy. If your date shifts, we will tell you.
If a storm has blown a strand loose, leave it alone when it hangs near a walkway or a power line. Unplug it if you can do that safely, and send a photo so we can come by.
What you get and what the price depends on
Each strand comes down with its clips, unless you want the clips left for next year. We use clips only, so there are no nails or staples to pull out of the fascia. Lights are coiled and labelled by area, such as front roofline or porch hedge, and left where you choose. If you want them stored, ask when you book.
The price depends on the roof height, how much roofline and how many trees or hedges are lit, how hard the plugs and access are, and how the lights were hung. We explain this before the job. We do not list a flat number here, because a two-storey home with a steep peak is a different job from a single-level home.
We also remove lights at strata townhouses, low-rise condos and storefronts. Large complexes in Clayton and Grandview often set rules for the exterior, so check with your council or manager first.
