Taking lights down on New Westminster's hills and older homes
New Westminster has some of the oldest housing in the region. Queen's Park and Sapperton have Victorian and Edwardian homes on steep, narrow lots. Many have detailed trim, porches and tight side access. That makes a January ladder job harder than it looks.
If the lights are still up in February and nobody wants to climb a wet roof, this is the job we do. We work from the clips, not around them. Nothing gets pulled off trim by force, and we use no nails or staples.
We also move roof work when it is slick or windy. On the hill, that matters. A steep lot with a wet slope is not a place to rush.
If the lights came down in a storm and are hanging off the house, leave them alone if they are near a walkway or a power line. Unplug them if you can do that safely. Send us a photo and we will come by.
What a removal visit includes
We take down the lights on rooflines, gutters, trees and shrubs. Then we remove the clips, unless you ask us to leave them on for next year.
Every strand is coiled and labelled by area. That means the front porch lights are not tangled with the back shrub lights when you open the bin next November. If you want us to store them, ask when you book. Otherwise we leave them where you choose.
This works for lights we installed and for lights you or someone else hung. If last year's installer cannot be reached, you do not need to start over with a new yearly plan. Tell us how high the lights are and send a photo so we know what is up there.
Removal is usually quicker than the install. A typical house is often an hour or two. Price depends on the job, and we explain what it depends on before we start.
Condos, townhouses and strata buildings
Uptown and Downtown are mostly low-rise and high-rise condos. Queensborough has newer townhouses and houses on flat land, and many are under strata rules. We also work with stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts.
For a strata, it helps to tell us who approves the work and which areas have lights. Common railings, shrubs and entrance trees are the usual spots. Send a photo of each area and we can plan the visit.
You can book removal alone, even if another company installed the lights. That suits a council that wants one job done and does not want to sign up for a program.
For individual townhouse owners, the same rules apply. Clips come off, strands are labelled, and the work is booked one job at a time.
