What Surrey houses usually need
Surrey covers a lot of ground, and the houses vary. Newer homes in Morgan Creek, Fleetwood and South Surrey often have tall entries and steep front peaks. Those are the spots most people don't want to reach from a ladder. Many are also hard to judge by eye, so we look at the roofline and tell you what will sit well.
In Newton and Guildford, many 1970s and 1980s split-levels and basement-entry homes have suites. The outdoor plug may not be on your panel, so we sort that out before we hang anything. In older parts of the city, big yards with cedars and hedges are common, and people often want those lit too.
If you have bins of lights in the garage and nobody who wants to go up on the roof, this is the job we do. We check what you have, hang what works, and say plainly if a strand isn't worth putting up again.
How the job works and what affects the price
We clip lights along gutters, peaks, dormers, railings and pillars. We can also add icicle lights, pathway lights, wreaths and garland. Plastic clips hook onto the gutter edge or slip under the shingle edge. Nothing is nailed or stapled, and the clips come off with the lights. Everything is run to a timer, and we plan the run so strands reach the outdoor plug.
Most houses take a few hours in one visit. Large or steep houses can take longer.
Price depends on four things:
- the length of your roofline
- the height and pitch of the roof
- how much is lit besides the roof
- whether you use your own lights or want ours supplied
You book the install on its own. Removal in January is a separate booking if you want it. Repair can also be booked alone, even on lights someone else hung. Next year is up to you.
Surrey weather, timing and strata rules
Surrey gets less rain than Vancouver and the North Shore, but rain and wind still arrive by November. Roof work moves to another day when the roof is slick or the wind is up. Light rain doesn't stop ground-level work like shrubs, railings and pathways.
Inland areas such as Cloverdale and Clayton have colder winter nights. Frost on a roof can mean a morning job waits until it clears. Booking early helps. Lights can go up in October or November and stay off until you want them on, and the calendar gets tight by December.
Large townhouse complexes in Clayton and Grandview often set rules on what goes on the exterior. Check with your strata council first. We also work with stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts, so a council or property manager can book a job as well.
