What Surrey houses ask of a light installer
Surrey is not one kind of neighbourhood, so jobs vary a lot. Newer homes in Morgan Creek, Fleetwood and South Surrey often have tall entries and steep front peaks. Those are the spots most people don't want to climb to anymore.
Older parts of the city, including Newton and Guildford, have 1970s and 1980s split-levels and basement-entry homes. Many have suites, so the outdoor plug may not be on your panel. We check that before we hang anything.
Big yards are common too. Cedars and hedges can look great lit, and we cover that under tree and shrub lighting. Some homes also have an outdoor plug far from the roofline. We plan the run of cord first so it stays tidy and doesn't dangle across a walkway.
Booking one job at a time
There is no program and no yearly plan. You hire us for the job in front of you.
If you have bins of lights in the garage, we will test them and hang the ones that are outdoor-rated and working. If they aren't, we can supply lights. Either way, everything is held up with clips. We don't use nails or staples, so your fascia and shingles stay as they were.
You can also book only part of the work. Install, repair and removal each stand alone. That includes repair or removal of lights someone else hung.
The price depends on a few things we will explain up front.
- How much roofline and how many trees or shrubs get lit
- How tall and steep the house is
- Whether you supply the lights or we do
- Where the plugs are and how far the cord has to run
Rain, wind and frost on Surrey roofs
Surrey gets less rain than Vancouver and the North Shore, and South Surrey sees more sun near the bay. Even so, rain and wind arrive by November, and a slick or windy roof is not a safe place to work.
When that happens, we move the roof work to another day. Inland areas like Cloverdale and Clayton Heights see slightly colder winter nights. Frost can sit on a roof in the morning, so early roof jobs there may wait until it clears.
This is why we suggest booking install before the weather turns. It gives us room to reschedule without pushing you past the date you wanted your lights on. Removal happens in January, once the season is done.
Townhouse stratas and storefronts
A large share of recent Surrey construction is strata townhouses. Big complexes in Clayton and Grandview often set rules on what can go on the exterior. Check your bylaws or ask your council before you book. We can work within those rules and can also do common areas.
We also light low-rise condos and storefronts. For these, a single visit often covers the entry, railings and signage area, depending on what the property allows.
If you manage a strata, you can still hire us for one season at a time. There is nothing to sign up for beyond the job itself.
