What Christmas light installation includes
We hang Christmas lights on houses and townhouses across Vancouver. That covers rooflines, gutters, peaks, dormers, railings, pillars, icicle lights, pathway lights, and wreaths and garland. Everything is clipped in place and run to a timer, so the lights come on and go off without anyone touching a plug.
If you have bins of lights in the garage, bring them out. We check each strand. If it is rated for outdoor use and works, we hang it. If a strand is not worth hanging again, we tell you plainly. If you would rather not deal with lights at all, we supply them. You don't have to buy new lights to book us.
You book this as one job. There is no program and no yearly plan. Add removal in January if you want it. Next year is up to you.
Problems this job fixes
Most people call us for one of a few reasons.
- The lights are sitting in bins and nobody wants to hang them.
- Nobody in the house wants to be on a wet roof or a tall ladder.
- The house is two storeys, or the roofline is too steep to do yourself.
- Lights sagged or blew down after the first windstorm.
- The strands never reached the outdoor plug.
- The house has lots of peaks and you can't picture what will look right.
- Family is arriving and you are running out of time.
Clips set along the gutter edge or under the shingle edge hold the line in place. For plug reach, we look at where your outdoor outlet is before we start and plan the runs from there. On a house with many peaks, we help you decide which lines to light and which to leave plain.
How the job is done
We start by looking at the house and at your lights, if you have them. We check that each strand is outdoor-rated and working. Then we plan the runs from the outdoor plug so every strand reaches.
Plastic clips hook onto the gutter edge or slip under the shingle edge. No nails or staples go in, and the clips come off with the lights later. Peaks, dormers, railings and pillars get their own runs. Pathway lights, wreaths and garland go in last. We set the timer so you aren't flipping a switch every evening.
Light rain doesn't stop ground-level work. Roof work moves to another day when the roof is slick or the wind is up, because a wet roof is not worth the risk. Lights can go up in October or November and stay off until you want them on.
What affects cost and time
We don't post a price on this page because it depends on the house. These are the things it depends on.
- Roofline length, and how many peaks and dormers there are.
- Height. Two-storey and steep rooflines take more time and care.
- Whether you supply working lights or we do.
- What else you want lit, such as railings, pillars, pathways, wreaths and garland.
- Whether you add removal in January.
Most houses take a few hours in one visit. Large or steep houses can take longer. Booking early helps, since the calendar gets tight by December.
Repair and removal can each be booked alone, even on lights someone else hung. We also hang lights on stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts.
