Taking lights down across Coquitlam's hills and valley
Coquitlam is not one roof type. Maillardville and Austin Heights have mid-century homes with lower rooflines. Westwood Plateau has 1990s hillside houses, and Burke Mountain has tall new detached homes and townhouses on sloped lots.
The tall ones take planning. On a steep lot the ladder has to sit somewhere level, and that spot is not always where you would guess. We look at that before we climb.
January is also the wettest, coldest time to be on a roof. The higher streets get more rain, cooler nights and the odd snowfall. Cedars and firs close to many lots drop needles and branches on the roofline, which makes shingles slick. If a roof is slick or the wind is up, we move that part of the job to another day rather than push it.
If you are done with the ladder, this is the job to hand off.
What a removal visit covers
A removal visit is simple and it is meant to make next December easier.
- Lights come off rooflines, gutters, trees and shrubs.
- Every clip comes off with the lights. We use clips only, no nails or staples, so there is nothing to patch. If you want the clips left up for next year, tell us when you book.
- Strands are coiled and labelled by area, so the front gutter run does not end up in a knot with the shrub lights.
- Your lights are left where you choose, such as the garage or a bin by the door. Ask when you book if you want us to store them.
For a typical house this is usually quicker than the install, often an hour or two. Bigger rooflines, tall peaks and lots of trees take longer.
If you already have bins of lights in the garage, we can take those down next year too, and hang them if they are outdoor-rated and still work.
Lights someone else hung, or lights that came loose
You do not need to have hired us for the install. If last year's installer cannot be reached, or you or a neighbour put the lights up, we can still take them down. Tell us how high they are and send a photo so we know what is up there.
Storms on higher streets can leave strands hanging off the house. If one is down near a walkway or a power line, leave it alone. Unplug it only if you can do that safely, then send us a photo and we will come by.
Lights still up in February are common. Nothing is wrong with booking late. The job is the same, and the clips and strands get the same care.
If you want a specific removal date, the easiest time to ask is when the lights go up.
Stratas, townhouses and what the price depends on
Towers around Coquitlam Centre and Burquitlam have added a lot of strata buildings, and townhouse complexes around Burquitlam and Town Centre often set exterior rules. If you sit on a council or manage a building, tell us what the rules say about access and timing. We also work on low-rise condos and storefronts.
For homes, the price depends on how much is up, how high it sits, and how easy it is to reach. A single-storey rancher in Ranch Park is a different job from a three-storey home on a Burke Mountain slope. Trees and shrubs add time too.
Send a photo when you book and we will explain what the price depends on. You pay for this one job. There is no program to join and nothing renews.
