What Richmond's wind and wet ground mean for lights
Richmond is flat, open and close to the water. Wind comes off the Strait of Georgia and meets very little in its way. Winter storms here bring wind more often than snow, and that is what pulls loose lights off an exposed roofline.
So we put extra clips on the exposed side of the house. We use clips only, never nails or staples, so nothing is left behind in your fascia or shingles.
The high water table also keeps flat yards and concrete damp through the wet season. Cord connections get kept off the ground so they are not sitting in standing water.
If the roof is slick or the wind is up, we move the roof work to another day. A rushed job on a wet roof is not worth it.
Large homes, ranchers and townhouse complexes
Richmond has 1960s to 1980s ranchers and two-storey homes on wide lots. Many have been replaced by large new houses. In Steveston and Terra Nova, those newer homes often have long rooflines and several gables, and that is where most of the time on a job goes.
Townhouse complexes are common across the city. At many of them the strata decides what can go on the exterior, so check your rules before we book. City Centre around Brighouse is mostly newer condo towers, and we also work on low-rise condos, stratas and storefronts.
If your place is a plain rancher, the job is usually quick. If it is a large house with a lot of gables, it takes longer and the price reflects that.
Book install, repair or removal on its own
You do not have to sign up for a program. Pick the job you need and book just that.
- Install. We hang your own outdoor-rated lights if they work. If they do not, we supply lights.
- Repair. We fix lights that stopped working, even if someone else hung them.
- Removal. We take them down in January and you can store them again.
Many Richmond homeowners have bins of lights in the garage and are done with the ladder. That is who we are set up for.
We explain what the price depends on before you decide. The main factors are the length of the roofline, the number of gables, and whether we supply the lights or use yours.
