What January removal looks like on the North Shore
North Vancouver is one of the wettest parts of the region, and January roofs are often soaked, mossy or shaded all day. Homes in Lynn Valley, Edgemont and Deep Cove sit under tall firs and cedars that drop needles and branches on the roofline. Upper streets in Canyon Heights and Blueridge can have frost or snow when the waterfront has none.
Steep lots mean high gutters and few places to set a ladder. That is the part most people are happy to hand off.
If the roof is slick or the wind is up, we move the job to a safer day. We would rather reschedule than rush a wet roof. Once we are up there, removal is usually quicker than the install. For a typical house, it is often an hour or two.
Taking down lights we didn't hang
You do not need to have hired us for the install. Plenty of people call because the installer from last year can't be reached, or because the lights are still up in February and nobody wants to climb a wet roof.
We can also deal with the usual leftovers.
- Clips still sitting on the gutters
- Strands blown loose and hanging off the house after a storm
- Lights strung into trees and shrubs that have grown since they went up
Send a photo and tell us how high the lights are, so we know what is up there before we arrive. If a strand has come loose near a walkway or a power line, leave it alone. Unplug it only if you can do that safely, then send us a photo and we will come by.
Clips come off with the lights. If you want them left in place for next year, say so when you book.
What the price depends on, and what you get back
We don't have a fixed price to quote here, but we can tell you what moves it. The main factors are the length of the roofline, how high the gutters are, and how many trees and shrubs have lights on them. Access matters too. A steep driveway or a lot with limited ladder positions takes longer than a flat lot with an open front.
Whether the clips come off, and whether we store the lights, can also change the job. Ask about storage when you book. Otherwise your lights are coiled, labelled by area and left where you choose.
That labelling is the point for anyone with bins in the garage. Next year, you or we can see which strand goes where. We also take down lights on stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts, which covers many buildings around Lower Lonsdale.
