We repair Christmas lights in North Vancouver, from half-dead strands and tripping outdoor plugs to dead timers and storm damage. We trace the fault, repair what is worth saving, re-hang anything that came loose and replace strands that are done. You can book the repair on its own, even if someone else hung the lights. Many repairs take under an hour.

  • Repair can be booked alone, even on lights someone else hung.
  • Wet connections are the usual cause of plugs that trip in North Vancouver rain.
  • Many repairs take under an hour, though a whole-house fault hunt can take longer.
  • We use clips only, with no nails or staples, when we re-hang lights.

Why lights fail on the North Shore

North Vancouver is one of the wettest parts of Metro Vancouver, and the rain gets heavier toward the mountains. Connections take a beating. A plug sitting in a puddle or a join that is not sealed is enough to trip the outlet.

In Lynn Valley, Deep Cove and Edgemont, many homes sit under tall firs and cedars. Branches and needles land on rooflines and pull strands loose. Heavy tree cover also keeps roofs and decks shaded, so things stay damp for longer.

Upper streets get snow and frost when the waterfront does not. Steep lots mean high gutters and few places to set a ladder. That is often when a homeowner decides they are done climbing and calls for help.

What we repair and how we find the fault

We start with what you are seeing and work along the run section by section. The usual problems are:

  • half a strand out with no obvious bad spot
  • an outdoor plug that trips every time it rains
  • a timer that stopped switching the lights on
  • one section of the roofline gone dark
  • lights pulled down by wind or a falling branch
  • corroded plugs where strands join

Many repairs take under an hour. Finding a fault across a whole house can take longer.

On older strands, a bulb or fuse is often the cause. On sealed LED strands the bad section may not be repairable, and replacing the strand is the better buy. If a few spots are out on a strand in good shape, we repair it. If the wire is cracked or there are several faults, replacing costs less over time. Anything we re-hang goes up on clips, never nails or staples.

Book one repair, with no plan to join

You hire us for this job and that is the end of it. There is no program and no yearly plan. Install, repair and removal can each be booked alone, so you can have us fix the lights and still take them down yourself, or the other way around.

If you have bins of lights in the garage, we will hang yours if they are outdoor-rated and working. If they are not, we can supply replacements. Send a photo of the part that is out, and tell us who hung them if you know.

We explain what the price depends on before we start. Things like how many faults there are and how hard the roof is to reach on a steep lot can change it. If the roof is slick or windy, we move the roof work to a safer day. We also repair lights at stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts, including the condo blocks around Lower Lonsdale. Removal can be booked for January.

Around North Vancouver

  • Lynn Valley, Deep Cove and Edgemont homes sit under tall conifers that drop branches and needles on rooflines.
  • The North Shore gets more rain than the rest of the region, so plugs and joins stay wet and fail more often.
  • Upper streets such as those in Upper Lonsdale and Blueridge may see snow when the waterfront stays clear.
  • Steep lots on the slopes mean high gutters and limited ladder positions, which affects how repairs are reached.
  • Around Lower Lonsdale, condos and older walk-ups often need balcony, entry and common-area lights looked at.

We work in Lower Lonsdale, Upper Lonsdale, Lynn Valley, Edgemont, Deep Cove, Capilano, Blueridge and the rest of North Vancouver.

Questions people ask

Why does my outdoor plug trip when it rains?

Water is getting into a connection somewhere on the run, and the plug is cutting the power as it should. It is usually a plug lying in a puddle or a join that is not sealed. We trace it section by section.

Half my strand is out. Can it be fixed?

On older strands, a bulb or fuse is often the cause and it can be fixed. On sealed LED strands the dead section may not be repairable. In that case replacing the strand is the better buy.

Can you fix lights that someone else installed?

Yes. Tell us who put them up if you know, and send a photo of the part that is out. You do not need to have hired us for the install.

Is it safe to leave lights plugged in when the plug keeps tripping?

No. Leave the plug off, do not keep resetting it, and call it in. A plug that keeps tripping is telling you something is wet or damaged.

Should I repair old lights or replace them?

If a few spots are out on a strand in good shape, repair it. If the wire is cracked or the strand has several faults, replacing it costs less over time. We will tell you which one we think it is.

Do I have to sign up for a yearly plan?

No. We are hired one job at a time. You can book a repair alone, and add install or removal later if you want to.

Will you repair lights during wet or windy weather?

We move roof work when it is slick or windy. Ground-level checks, plugs and timers can often be handled in the rain, but we will tell you what makes sense for your house.

Do you repair lights at condos and storefronts in North Vancouver?

Yes. We also work with stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts. Call or use the form and describe what is out and where.
