We repair Christmas lights in New Westminster, from half-dead strands and plugs that trip in the rain to timers that quit and lights pulled down by wind. We find the fault, fix what is worth fixing, re-hang what came loose and replace strands that are finished. You can book a repair on its own, even on lights someone else hung.

  • Repair is a one-job booking. There is no program or yearly plan to join.
  • We fix lights someone else hung. Send a photo of the part that is out.
  • If the plug keeps tripping, leave it off and call. Something is wet or damaged.
  • Clips only on heritage trim. No nails or staples.
  • Many repairs take under an hour. A fault hunt across a whole house takes longer.

Why Christmas lights fail in New Westminster

New Westminster winters are mild and wet, so water in a connection causes more trouble than cold does. Most outages we see come down to a plug lying in a puddle, an unsealed join between strands or a corroded plug.

Older houses add to it. Many have few outdoor plugs, so cord runs get long and joins end up low on the ground. Queensborough sits low beside the Fraser River, and a lot of lots on the slopes are partly shaded and stay damp.

When the outdoor plug trips in the rain, it is doing its job by cutting the power. Don't keep resetting it. Leave it off and call us, and we trace the run section by section until we find the wet spot.

What we repair and what it depends on

Here are the faults we are usually called for.

  • Half a strand out with no obvious bad spot
  • An outdoor plug that trips every time it rains
  • A timer that stopped switching the lights on
  • One section of the roofline gone dark
  • Lights pulled down by wind or a falling branch
  • Corroded plugs where strands join

Many repairs take under an hour. Finding a fault across a whole house can take longer, and that is the main thing the price depends on. Access, the number of faults and whether strands need replacing also count. We explain it before we start.

On older strands, a bulb or fuse is often the cause. Sealed LED strands may have a bad section that can't be fixed, and replacing the strand is the better buy. A few faults on a strand in good shape are worth repairing. Cracked wire or several faults means replace.

Heritage trim, steep lots and strata buildings

Queen's Park and Sapperton have Victorian and Edwardian houses with porches and detailed trim. We use clips only, with no nails or staples, so the woodwork stays as it is. If your lights were hung with staples, we can swap those out as part of the repair.

The hill makes for steep, narrow lots and hard ladder access. Roof work gets moved when it is slick or windy, and dry fall days are the best time for the steep streets around the hill.

We also repair lights for stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts in Uptown, Downtown and Queensborough. Strata rules often apply, so tell us who to talk to.

If you have bins of lights in the garage, we hang your own outdoor-rated lights when they work, or supply new ones. Removal in January is a separate booking.

Around New Westminster

  • Queen's Park has large heritage houses with porches and trim that should not be nailed or stapled, so we repair with clips.
  • The hill means steep lots and tight access on many streets, and ladder work takes planning.
  • Older houses often have few outdoor plugs, so long cord runs and low joins are common causes of tripping.
  • Queensborough has newer townhouses and homes, many under strata rules, and sits low beside the river.
  • Dry fall days are the best time to work on the steep lots around the hill.

We work in Queen's Park, Sapperton, Queensborough, Uptown, Downtown, Glenbrooke North, Victory Heights and the rest of New Westminster.

Questions people ask

Why does my outdoor plug trip when it rains?

Water is getting into a connection somewhere on the run, and the plug cuts the power to protect you. Usually it is a plug lying in a puddle or an unsealed join. We trace it section by section.

Half my strand is out. Can it be fixed?

Sometimes. On older strands, a bulb or fuse is often the cause. On sealed LED strands, the bad section may not be repairable, and replacing the strand is the better buy.

Can you fix lights that someone else installed?

Yes. Tell us who put them up if you know, and send a photo of the part that is out. Repair can be booked on its own.

Is it safe to leave lights plugged in when the plug keeps tripping?

No. Leave the plug off, don't keep resetting it, and call us. A plug that keeps tripping is telling you something is wet or damaged.

Should I repair old lights or replace them?

If a few spots are out on a strand in good shape, repair it. If the wire is cracked or the strands have several faults, replacing them costs less over time.

Do I need to sign up for a yearly plan to get a repair?

No. We are hired one job at a time. Repair, install and removal can each be booked alone.

Will you damage my heritage trim?

We use clips only, with no nails or staples. That keeps porches and detailed trim intact, which matters on the older houses in Queen's Park and Sapperton.

What happens if it is wet or windy on repair day?

Roof work is moved when it is slick or windy. Ground-level faults, like a wet plug or a dead timer, can often be dealt with sooner.
