We install Christmas lights on trees and shrubs in Coquitlam as a one-time job. We wrap trunks and limbs, drape evergreens and cedars, and put nets on hedges, all on outdoor-rated cords to a timer. Most yards take an hour or two on top of the house lights. Price depends on tree size, count, distance to a plug, and whose lights are used.

  • Front trees, hedges, cedars and shrubs can be lit on their own, without the house.
  • Clips only. No nails or staples go into your trees.
  • Your own outdoor-rated lights are fine if they work. We can supply them if not.
  • Hillside streets get snow early, so Burke Mountain and Westwood Plateau jobs are best done before December.
  • Removal is in January, and you can book it separately.

Coquitlam yards and the trees in them

Coquitlam yards vary a lot. In Maillardville and Austin Heights, the mid-century lots often have a mature front tree and a hedge along the walkway. On Westwood Plateau, many 1990s hillside houses sit above the street with cedars and firs close to the roofline. On Burke Mountain, the newer detached homes are tall and the lots slope.

That matters for tree lighting. A big front tree is hard to reach from a ladder, and a sloped lot makes ladder placement a planning job. We look at where a ladder can stand safely and what is under it before we say how high we can go.

A lot of Coquitlam lots also back onto forest or ravines. A lit tree in the front yard can leave the house looking bright and the yard looking dark. Lighting the trees fixes that without taking over the whole property.

How we light trees, hedges and cedars

The method depends on the plant.

  • Bare trunks and limbs are wrapped closely, which gives a clean look.
  • Evergreens and cedars have strands draped through the branches from the top down.
  • Hedges get nets, so they do not look patchy when lit.

Everything is held with clips. We do not use nails or staples on your trees or your house. The strands sit loosely for the season and come off in January, so nothing stays wrapped on a growing limb all year.

Each run goes on outdoor-rated cords to a timer. The lights need an outdoor plug within reach. If your yard is a long way from one, we will tell you how the cords would run before you book, so you are not left with cords across the lawn and walkway.

If you have bins of lights in the garage, we will hang them if they are outdoor-rated and working. If a strand is dead or tangled, we can supply replacements.

What the price depends on and how long it takes

We do not give a flat price for every yard, because yards are not alike. The price depends on four things.

  • The size and number of trees and shrubs.
  • How they are lit, for example wrapped, draped or netted.
  • How far they are from an outdoor plug.
  • Whether you use your own lights or want them supplied.

Most yards take an hour or two on top of the house lights. Large trees take longer. A photo of the yard helps us say what is possible and what it involves.

You hire us for one job at a time. There is no program and no yearly plan to join. Install, repair and removal can each be booked alone, even on lights someone else hung. If the weather turns slick or windy, we move roof work to a safer day.

Stratas, townhouses and storefronts

Coquitlam has a large strata population, especially around Coquitlam Centre and Burquitlam. Townhouse complexes around Burquitlam and Town Centre often set exterior rules. Check what your strata allows for lights, cords and timers before you book. If you tell us the rules, we will work inside them.

We also light low-rise condos and storefronts. A shared entrance tree or a row of shrubs out front can be done as its own job. If you manage a building, send a photo and a note on where the outdoor plugs are, and we will say how the lighting could run.

Around Coquitlam

  • Burke Mountain and Westwood Plateau get snow before the rest of the city, so lights there are best up before December.
  • Newer homes on Burke Mountain and Westwood Plateau are tall and the lots slope, so ladder positions take planning.
  • Cedars and firs next to many lots drop needles and branches onto rooflines during storms.
  • Townhouse complexes around Burquitlam and Town Centre often set exterior rules, so check with your strata first.

We work in Burke Mountain, Westwood Plateau, Coquitlam Centre, Maillardville, Austin Heights, Ranch Park, Eagle Ridge and the rest of Coquitlam.

Questions people ask

Will wrapping lights hurt my tree?

Not for a season. The strands sit loosely and come off in January. Damage comes from leaving lights wrapped on a growing limb all year, which is why we book removal for January.

How high can you light a tree?

It depends on the tree, where a ladder can stand safely and what is under it. On sloped Coquitlam lots that takes some planning. Send a photo and we will tell you what is possible.

Should a tree be wrapped or draped?

Bare trunks and limbs look best wrapped closely. Evergreens and cedars look better with strands draped through the branches from the top down. Hedges get nets.

Do the lights need their own power?

They need an outdoor plug within reach of an outdoor-rated cord. If your yard is far from a plug, we will explain how the cords would run before you book.

Can you light just the yard and not the house?

Yes. Plenty of people only want a front tree or a hedge done. You can book the yard alone.

Can you use the lights I already have?

Yes, if they are outdoor-rated and working. If they are not, we can supply lights for the job.

Do you use nails or staples on trees?

No. We use clips only, on trees and on the house.

When should I book on Burke Mountain or Westwood Plateau?

Those areas see snow before the rest of Coquitlam, so lights are best up before December. If a roof or tree is slick or windy on the day, we move the work to a safer time.
