Trees and hedges on Burnaby lots
Most Burnaby front yards have something worth lighting. Post-war bungalows and split-levels in Burnaby Heights, Capitol Hill and South Slope often have a big front tree or a long cedar hedge. Newer builds that replaced 1960s to 1980s homes tend to have larger yards with shrubs along the walkway.
Tall firs and cedars around Deer Lake and Burnaby Mountain give you plenty to light. Ravine parks and greenbelts leave many lots shaded for much of the day, so a lit tree stands out against a dark yard. Slope matters too. On a steep lot, the spot where a ladder can stand safely decides how high we can go.
If your house is lit and your yard is dark, the trees are usually what is missing. If you only want a front tree or a hedge done, that is a normal job for us.
How we light trees, cedars and hedges
The method depends on the plant.
- Bare trunks and limbs are wrapped closely for a clean look.
- Evergreens and cedars get strands draped through the branches from the top down.
- Hedges get nets, so they do not look patchy when lit.
- Everything runs on outdoor-rated cords to a timer.
We hang your own outdoor-rated lights if they work. If they don't, we supply them. The bins from the garage are fine to hand over. We use clips only, with no nails or staples. The strands sit loosely and come off in January, so nothing stays on a growing limb all year.
Most yards take an hour or two on top of the house lights. Large trees take longer. The lights need an outdoor plug within reach of an outdoor-rated cord. If the yard is a long way from a plug, we tell you how the cords would run before you book. If cords across the lawn or walkway bother you, say so and we will plan the run around it.
Booking one job, timing and price
You hire us for one job. There is no program and no yearly plan to join. Install, repair and removal can each be booked alone, even on lights someone else hung. A dead strand buried in the middle of a tree is a repair job, and you do not need to book anything else with it.
We can't quote a tree without seeing it. The price depends on how many trees and hedges there are, how tall they are, where a ladder can stand safely, what is under the tree, how far the plug is, and whether we supply the lights. Send a photo and we will say what is possible and what drives the cost.
On timing, Burnaby Mountain gets more rain and the odd snowfall, so higher lots are best done early in the fall. If roof work is slick or windy, we move it to a better day. Removal is in January.
We also work with stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts. Many townhouse complexes around Brentwood and Metrotown set rules on exteriors, so check with your strata council first.
