Taking lights down in Maple Ridge's wet, cold winters
Maple Ridge gets more rain than the western suburbs and colder winters. Outflow wind down the Fraser Valley brings hard frost and snow. That is why a lot of lights are still up in February. Nobody wants to climb a wet January roof.
Upper streets near Silver Valley see more snow than the town centre, and the lots are steep. Homes near Golden Ears and the forested north side stay damp and shaded, so a roof can stay slick for days.
We do not send anyone onto a slick or windy roof. If the weather turns, we move the roof work to a better day. If a strand has blown loose and is hanging off the house, tell us and send a photo.
What removal involves on Maple Ridge homes
Maple Ridge has a mix of housing. Older homes sit around Haney and Hammond. Cottonwood and Albion have 1980s to 2000s subdivisions. Silver Valley has newer hillside homes and townhouses. East toward Whonnock and Thornhill, the acreages run larger.
On most houses we take down the roofline and gutter lights first, then the trees and shrubs. Big cedars and firs take longer, and so do long runs between plugs and trees on a large lot.
Clips come off with the lights, so you are not left with clips along the gutters. If you want them left up for next year, say so when you book. Each strand is coiled and labelled by area. A typical house is often an hour or two, and removal is usually quicker than the install.
Booking removal as its own job
You do not need to have hired us for the install. Lights you hung, lights a neighbour hung, or lights from an installer who has gone quiet are all fine. Tell us how high they are and send a photo so we know what is up there.
The price depends on how much is up, how high it is, and how easy it is to reach. A steep lot or a row of tall cedars changes the work. We explain what the price depends on before we start.
If you want your lights stored, ask when you book. Otherwise they are coiled, labelled and left where you choose. We also take lights down for stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts. Townhouse complexes near Albion and the town centre often have exterior rules, so check yours first.
