Why Maple Ridge lights need to be hung for wind and snow
Maple Ridge is one of the colder, wetter parts of Metro Vancouver. It gets more rain than the western suburbs, and outflow wind down the Fraser Valley brings hard frost and snow. That wind is what pulls sagging strands off a roofline, so the way lights are clipped matters more here than in most of the region.
Upper streets near Silver Valley see more snow than the town centre, and many of those lots are steep. Homes near Golden Ears and the forested north side stay damp and shaded, which makes roofs slick for longer.
We move roof work to another day when the roof is slick or the wind is up. Light rain does not stop ground-level work. Early fall installs go best here. Lights can go up in October or November and stay off until you want them on.
What we hang and which lights we use
If your lights are rated for outdoor use and still work, we hang them. We check each strand first and tell you plainly if one is not worth putting up again. If you do not have lights, or yours are tired, we supply them. You do not have to buy new lights to book us.
We do rooflines, gutters, peaks, dormers, railings, pillars, icicle lights, pathway lights, and wreaths and garland. Everything is held with plastic clips that hook onto the gutter edge or slip under the shingle edge. No nails or staples go in, and the clips come off with the lights.
Everything runs to a timer. If your strands never quite reached the outdoor plug before, we plan the runs so they do.
Many Maple Ridge lots have big cedars and firs, and people want those lit too. We also do tree and shrub lights, so mention them when you book.
Haney, Albion, Silver Valley and the acreages
The work changes with the house. Older homes around Haney and Hammond often have lots of peaks and gables, so we talk through what will look right before we start. The 1980s to 2000s subdivisions in Cottonwood and Albion tend to be simpler rooflines, though many are two storeys.
Silver Valley has newer hillside homes and townhouses, where height and slope are the main issues. Out toward Whonnock and Thornhill, acreages mean long distances between plugs and trees, so we plan cable runs early.
Townhouse complexes near Albion and the town centre have exterior rules. Check with your strata before you book. We also work with stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts if the whole building wants lights.
How booking works and what affects the price
You book the install as one job. There is no program or yearly plan. Add the January removal if you want it, or book it separately later. Install, repair and removal can each be booked alone, even on lights someone else hung.
Most houses take a few hours in one visit. Large or steep houses can take longer.
The price depends on the size of the house, how many peaks and rooflines there are, how high and steep the roof is, how far the lights need to run to a plug, and whether we use your lights or supply them. We explain these when we quote, so you know what you are paying for.
The calendar gets tight by December. Booking early in the fall gives you the most choice of days.
