Taking lights down in Delta's wind and salt air
Delta is open to the water, and January weather shows it. Tsawwassen is one of the windiest parts of the region. Ladner is drier and sunnier than much of the Lower Mainland, but the wind still crosses the flats. Winter wind loosens strands that were poorly clipped, so by the end of the season some lights are hanging off the eave or lying in the yard.
Homes near Boundary Bay, Beach Grove and English Bluff also deal with salt air. If your lights went up in early December, expect them to need a careful look coming down.
If a strand has come loose near a walkway or a power line, leave it alone. Unplug it only if you can do that safely, then send us a photo so we can come by.
What a removal visit covers
We take down rooflines, gutters, trees and shrubs. Clips come off with the lights. If you want them left on for next year, tell us and we will leave them. We use clips only, so there are no nails or staples to pull out of your fascia.
Each strand is coiled and labelled by area. Next year's install goes faster because nobody is untangling a box in the garage. Your lights are left where you choose. If you want them stored until next year, ask when you book.
A typical house is often an hour or two, and removal is usually quicker than the install.
You can book removal by itself. It does not matter whether we hung the lights, you did, or an installer you can no longer reach did. There is no program or yearly plan to join.
What the price depends on and when we come
Price depends on how much is up and how high it is. A long rancher roofline in Ladner is easy going. A North Delta split-level on a hillside lot, with tall trees, shade and moss, takes more care. Farm properties in East Ladner can have long cord runs between the plugs and the lights, and that adds time.
Tell us how high the lights are and send a photo. We can then price what is actually up there.
Most removals happen in January. If you want a specific date, book it when the lights go up. Removal can be booked at the same time as the install. If the roof is slick or the wind is up, we move the roof work to a better day.
We also take down lights for stratas, low-rise condos and storefronts.
